TENS Unit 7000My Survival Kit for Chronic Pain & Illness

If you are Chronically ill, deal with chronic pain or health issues, then like me, you probably have a survival kit full of your chosen items that go everywhere you go. It’s like your own personalized First Aid Kit, a go-bag for chronic pain relief or chronic illness survival kit. This is just one aspect of my bag. I also have my mental health and first aid sections and the necessary distraction tools.
I wanted to share the items in my survival kit. Items I started to realize I couldn’t leave the house without. Now, I’m always curious about what’s in other people’s kits. Do you have a kit, bag or something that has to go where you go?
- Timolol Eye Drops – These have been one of my biggest lifesavers since my migraines decide to amp up in the late summer of 2017. It is the only prescription I take besides my inhalers for asthma. I am sensitive to medication but these reduce eye pressure and if I can administer than quickly enough, I can usually stop my migraine before it ruins my entire day. I can take them in each eye like regular drops or sublingually (under the tongue). These are technically for treating glaucoma but have been shown to reduce migraines for some patients. I don’t know what I would do without them.
- Magnesium Oil Spray – Now you can buy this as a ready-made spray, or you can buy magnesium flakes and make it yourself. I make it myself because it’s cheaper and I get more out of it but I started with the spray first to make sure I liked it. Making the oil spray is ridiculously easy. It’s not an oil but feels oily on the skin but Magnesium is good for regulating nerve and muscle function. They have linked magnesium deficiency to many health problems including asthma and migraines, both of which I have. Maybe I should go spray some on right now.
- Peppermint Essential Oil Rollerball – This is major for me with migraines. It’s a must. Peppermint is also good for sore muscles too. I either buy pre-made rollerball oils or buy the rollerball tubes and make my own which is also easy. Peppermint can also help calm the stomach which is great if you struggle with nausea. Nausea is something I deal with a lot. Maybe I will do a recipe for a few different ones that I work for me. I also keep a Lavender rollerball essential oil in my bag too. Lavender is my favorite for stress, relaxation, and smell.
- TENS Unit 7000 – A transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) unit is a nerve stimulator and has been so beneficial in my care, especially muscle spasms. It is a noninvasive way to relieve pain that can help with arthritis, MS, period cramps, to Fibromyalgia. I bought this one because it was from the same company as the one my chiropractor uses. He had recommended one to me for at-home use because of how severely my spasms would get and the diversity of my pain. It’s a bulky unit, I won’t lie, but it has a solid clip and build. If you get one, get extra electrodes. Electrodes are pre-gelled but lose their stickiness after so many uses. I bought 2 of the packs I linked and still haven’t run out (as of posting this) and that was in April and I gave the neighbor 2 packs of 4. This is my go-to for muscle spasms and pain in general. I suggest picking up some rechargeable batteries, too.
Different ways the TENS unit can be used. I’ve used all of these except for the calf hookup because it just feels weird.
- CBD Oil – I’ve been using CBD oil for years now but learned about it when my neighbor asked me to research it for her grand mal seizures. I’ve used many brands of CBD oil but I’ve found a few good ones. I’ve used SelectCBD because it’s been available locally and I recently started using NuLeaf Naturals full-spectrum CBD and am really noticing the difference between full-spectrum and a CBD isolate. I’ve found the SelectCBD which is an isolate, works well for topical but not as well as NuLeaf for ingested use. The isolate wasn’t working well for my anxiety but now I feel the difference throughout the day.
- Trauma Oil – This is a lovely mix of Calendula, Arnica, and St. John’s Wort extracted into olive oil. I’ve been using calendula infused oil for years for soap-making, balms, after-sun lotion, etc. This stuff works really well. It’s a topical oil so you can just rub it on but I like to mix it with specific essential oils and carrier oil for a more in-depth pain oil. So far, it works really well. I mean nothing is perfect and I can’t take pain meds so I have to rely on other things to get me through.
